A plus-sized woman with good reason to be wary of men...
A crystal warrior who believes himself unworthy of a woman's love....
Ruby's plus-sized, boyfriend-less, and turning thirty. But things are looking up when her BFF gives her a piece of kyanite crystal, and Ruby encounters the most beautiful man she's ever seen. Wow, best birthday present ever! Pity a veritable Adonis like Kyan couldn't possibly be attracted to someone like her.
Kyan can't figure what makes Ruby tick and seducing her proves to be a big mistake because now he wants more than Ruby's prepared to give. They both think they've got plenty of time to sort through this mess... and then the Crystal Guardian intervenes, and time runs out for them both.
Paranormal romance, approximately 71,000 words

Ruby Dream Book Two of The Crystal Warriors Series eBook Maree Anderson
Ruby is single and heavy and it's her 30th Birthday, she doesn't have the best taste in friends, save for one... her Mother is constantly putting her down, or signing her up for some fitness club (that scenario has been done to death in BBW romance), her Brother who's always been her champion has turned on her by sending her the worst Birthday Present ever, and her so called friend from work, is a bitch on wheels who loves nothing more than to sock Ruby with insults. When her backs against the wall, Ruby does the unthinkable and signs up for a triathalon, her friends are surprised to say the least and let the snarky friends jab away.
Her BFF gives her a lovely Crystal for her Birthday, when Ruby looks into the crytal, she momentarily sees a man deep in the recesses... later she finds the crystal broken and is saddened, but looks for a bright side.
I have to say I felt that a majority of this book was spent on Ruby's insecurties, once she meets her life mate Kyan who we later find out had been enslaved in the crystal, we have one misunderstanding after another. And as someone who's dealt with weight issues my entire life, I even winced and some of the conclusions our heroine came to.
Kyan is a tormented soul, he was not a good man in his past life and when he intially meets Ruby he is looking to bed her and to get on with his life... but from the very start he is conflicted, because he's feeling things for Ruby that he's never felt for another in his life, and he's not sure if it's really his heart speaking or the magic of the crystal.
Ruby cannot fathom that a beautiful man like Kyan would ever be interested in a woman like her, we never really know how large Ruby is (unless I missed it somewhere in the book) but the writer left me visualizing a overly obese woman.
I read the entire book, though I almost gave up a few times, Ruby got on my nerves more than once, and Kyan showed a lot more patience for his heroine than me.

Ruby Dream Book Two of The Crystal Warriors Series eBook Maree Anderson Reviews
Training for a triathlon would be a whole lot better if there was a gorgeous warrior getting you out of bed in the morning! Ruby is insecure and for good reason. She's fat, single and now thirty and her mother won't let her forget any of them. She's got a frenemy that is a man eating stick insect (giggled at that description every time!) Kyan is the crystal warrior that is Ruby's life mate the only problem is that he is stunningly gorgeous (and a sweetheart!) so she doesn't believe a thing about it. The first scenes of their meeting are a riot!
The set up for this story is not new but Maree adds some twists that make it feel fresh and her characters are believable and lovable. There are moments of heart break that make you want to cry but this is a Romance so there is a Happily Ever After, they just need to fight for it! Can't wait to go get the next one now.
Love it
